Define your Restaurant Cuisine
Our restaurant cuisine is distinctive and bold. We offer an assortment of Portuguese dishes that are infused with Latin American spices. We offer casual dine- in, take out and family style catering for any occasion.
What was your main motivation when you decided to start a restaurant?
Growing up, sister duo Dianna and Nathaly Coronel fell in love with cooking, wholesome products and a passion for the food industry. Having been inspired by our parents Latin American catering and food truck company ( La Fiesta Catering), we decided to start a restaurant. Throughout the summers we would work at the local farmers market and top outdoor catering events (Such as TIFF, Pride Parade, Rolling Stones , Mel Lastman Square’s annual Hispanic fiesta, Harbourfront and Taste of the Danforth & many more).
After spending our summers helping our parents and learning about the different cuisines from around the world from other food vendors we fell in love with both Portuguese cuisine and Portuguese culture and realized how much other people in Toronto and the surrounding area loved Portuguese (including famous Portuguese chicken and traditional Portuguese sweet tarts) that we decided to embark in a new chapter in our life, opening up a Churrasco Chicken take-out restaurant.
Throughout this 6-year journey our parents have and continue to be our biggest inspiration. And finally, the support from our customers and partnerships continue to motivate us to strive for the best.
When did you open your restaurant?
We opened the doors to Churrasqueira Sao Miguel on Weston Road in 2016.
What is your most popular dish?
Our most popular dish is of course the traditional Rotisserie chicken, Portuguese style accompanied by rice and with a side of roasted parisienne potatoes and our creamy codfish.
What changes have you made at your restaurant to adapt to the pandemic?
The changes we have made to adapt to the pandemic situation are we have implemented more sanitary and safety protocol measures among customer-employee interaction, better take-out containers and streamlined operations to respond to the demand to take-out and in-home and office catering.
Has your menu been adapted to more delivery-focused recipes?
Our menu has been predominantly delivery-focused before the pandemic started. Offering easy to go meals that can be enjoyed by all.
Have your customers become more used to ordering food for delivery or take away than before?
Yes, our customers have been so supportive with food delivery and take away. The pandemic has allowed us to gain new customers because more people have started ordering delivery.
When did you join hungerhub?
We joined hungerhub and started offering daily office meal deliveries in October 2020.
How important has your work with hungerhub been during the pandemic?
Our work with hungerhub has allowed us to keep our weekly corporate catering going during a time when office catering and delivery was uncertain. As small business owners,
We are grateful to be a partner with hungerhub who has allowed us to maintain a large volume of orders consistently throughout the pandemic despite lockdown restrictions and people working from home.
Were you offering catering orders before joining hungerhub?
We were only offering catering for special occasions. hungerhub has allowed us to branch off into corporate caterings which has given us the opportunity to have our food available to offices around the GTA that we would not be able to provide without hungerhub’s Uncatering service.
