For the month of February, we will be turning our focus and shining the spotlight on some of hungerhub's black-owned partner restaurants.
During Black History Month, Canadians celebrate the many achievements and contributions of Black Canadians and their communities who, throughout history, have done so much to make Canada a culturally diverse, compassionate, and prosperous country.
Here at hungerhub we're proud to partner with restaurants that reflect the diversity of this great country. For the month of February, we will be showcasing our country's diversity by celebrating and acknowledging black-owned restaurants and the positive impact they've had on the communities that they help shape and maintain.
Randy's Rotis
876 Yonge St, Toronto
Owner Randy Kangal still has two operating food trucks that serve the GTA, Mississauga and Hamilton; the storefront just north of Yonge and Bloor offers the same favourites food truck lovers have come to enjoy when the truck is out and about or catering to special events prior to the pandemic, such as the ROM's Friday Night Live.
You could guess from the name, that the Rotis and Doubles are stars of the show, make sure to try doubles, a vegan bite-sized treat with a blend of chickpeas and mango chutney, coleslaw, and cilantro-based sauce.
Vegan and meat-based options are abound here, and we've received plenty of praise and great feedback from hungry office workers ordering their office meal delivery and corporate catering from Randy's.

We had a chance to ask the man himself a few questions...
What was your main motivation when you decided to start a restaurant? Who inspired you to start? and who keeps inspiring you to continue?
We live in a very diverse city started up as a food truck serving up the street of Toronto over the years we grew our business and saw there was a need for authentic Caribbean food we opened a restaurant our motivation is all about the people, to bring authentic Caribbean food, full of flavour and nothing is more authentic than hand-made fresh daily rotis.
When did you open your restaurant?
We opened our permanent restaurant location in in 2014
What is your most popular dish?
The Doubles are probably our most popular dish, but since they're bite sized, people often pair them up with one of our boneless roti offerings, either the boneless chicken, or the boneless goat rotis.
What changes have you made at your restaurant to adapt to the pandemic?
We introduced new products that are more delivery-friendly, since the pandemic imposed a delivery-first model, we've adapted our dishes and packaging to be better enjoyed at home, or at the office!
When did you join hungerhub?
I joined hungerhub two years ago, in 2020.
How important has your work with hungerhub been during the pandemic?
Our partnership with hungerhub has been very important, especially during the pandemic, where we had a continuous demand for orders that we could rely on. We were able to have a more organized operations because we knew ahead of time the size and days of orders and based on that predictability and continuous work, we knew we had a reliable catering service to offset the loss of in-house dining.
